Negotiations finally over for Light

 

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- After a summer of negotiating, training camp sounds pretty good to Matt Light right now.
Light had a double load of stress during the lockout. He was the Patriots player representative and a free agent who couldn't negotiate with New England or any other team during the stoppage.
Light agreed to a two-year deal with the Patriots this week, ensuring he will be back protecting quarterback Tom Brady's blind side at left tackle.

MPs insist on radical reform before Football Association can be trusted to run football

 

An inquiry into the governance of English football by MPs on the Culture Media and Sport select committee is understood to have concluded that the FA, as structured, is unfit to govern the game.
They believe that with radical reform, however, it should take control for oversight of the club game, including the highly contentious area of clubs' finances and ownership.
The committee members met yesterday to begin discussions over their final report into the governance of the English game, and while the details are yet to be finalised their recommendations are likely to be radical and far-reaching.

Bucs? Rookie Bowers Says His Knee is Ready to Go

 

One of the biggest stories during NFL Draft weekend was Da’Quan Bowers and how a once top-5 prospect fell into the second round of the NFL draft to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Owners and teams stayed away from the nation’s leading sack leader due to a knee injury. Since draft day, Bowers has been fairly quiet but he recently spoke with “The Commish” Justin Pawlowski about his knee.
“My knee is great,” Bowers started with. “It’s back to where I needed it to be.  It’s back to playing shape. I’ve been rehabbing and working out all throughout the whole summer.

Free agent forward Kris Humphries will weigh free agency, but Nets have other options if he bolts

 

At his first public event since becoming Kim Kardashian's fiancé and hiring a new agent, Kris Humphries was talking like somebody ready to explore his options.
Careful not to concede anything at the negotiating table, Humphries sidestepped questions Wednesday about his free agency and declined to echo his previous statements about preferring to re-sign with the Nets.

Market impacted by oil decision

 

A decision by the International Energy Agency to release 60 million barrels of oil from emergency stocks helped to send markets into a freefall on Thursday morning.
The markets rallied back in the afternoon but not enough to end the day with gains.
Concern about Greece's shaky financial situation and gloomy growth projections in the United States also rattled investors.
Experts in Calgary say the decision was taken in part to offset the loss of millions of barrels of oil from the market due to the conflict in Libya.

Kemba Walker to Detroit Pistons in ESPN?s Latest 2011 NBA Mock Draft

 

If Kemba Walker falls to the Pistons at No. 8 in the 2011 NBA Draft, Detroit will find itself will a difficult decision to make: Take a much-needed big man or go best player available?

LeBron, Heat ready for Game 5 rebound

John Henry Johnson - Remembering another member of the Million Dollar Backfield

 

Sad to see the million-dollar backfield go from its original four-member contingent down to two in the last six weeks. Joe Perry died in Arizona in April and Saturday we heard the news that John Henry Johnson, who contracted Alzheimer's in 1989, succumbed in Tracy at age 81. The fullhouse backfield of Johnson, Perry, Hugh McElhenny and quarterback Y.A. Tittle are the only backfield to have all its members enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Romney comes out firing at US economic woes

 

MITT Romney, the widely hailed front-runner for the Republican Party's 2012 presidential nomination, has finally confirmed his candidacy and immediately attacked what pundits mark as Barack Obama's Achilles heel - a faltering US economy.
The former Massachusetts governor repeated his pledge to dismantle Mr Obama's healthcare reforms, which he said would ''bankrupt the nation''.
